Groups, topics and channels

A group is handy when several people handle orders. Topics keep orders and forms apart in one group.

A group

  1. Add the bot to the group as a member.
  2. Press Find chats on the Connection tab.
  3. Send the command in the group: /start@your_bot, with your bot’s username.

A bot in a group sees only commands, so an ordinary message does not make the group appear. In a group where only admins can write, make the bot an admin.

A topic of a group

Each topic is found separately: send the command inside the topic you need. The list then shows the group and the topic, for example “Demo Shop team → Orders”. Messages without a topic go to General.

You can also type the topic’s number in Topic ID. Leave it empty to send to the main chat.

The group ID changed

When you turn on topics or some other group settings, Telegram gives the group a new ID that starts with -100. Notifications switch to the new ID by themselves. If the test message fails, press Find chats again and pick the group.

A topic of your chat with the bot

Turn on Threaded Mode for the bot in @BotFather. Then open the chat with the bot, write in the topic you want, and press Find chats.

A channel

Add the bot to the channel as an admin with the right to post messages, then post anything in the channel. You can also type the channel’s @username in Chat ID.
